Another storage addition.... Hatch in Nav desk footwell.

The 33-2 is not a huge boat, and this becomes evident very quickly if even a modest cruise is planned.  This is compounded by the production boat reality of the cost associated with adding access hatches and making some of the more oddly shaped bits of interior volume accesssible.   Case in point, the space under the nav station footwell.  Pics are self explanatory.
Am pleased with this addition - the volume available is surprising, and I like the idea of any opportunity to increase airflow throughout the boat.

Hatch is made by Viking products.

  2. Hi Dave
I like your additions, the settee access has frustrated me from day one. Planning for spring, and out of the country for a few weeks, so would like to ask a few questions if you don't mind. Would the larger hatch offered fit under the settee? Did you choose 2 hatches based on dividing the space or because of height? Would the smaller hatch you used fit in the floor under the nav station?
Followed your guidance for the battery switch, I'm pretty happy with my installation, thanks.

  3. Brad - sorry for the delay in responding - definitely user error on my end, I "found" a bunch of comments within the blog tool. Must have accidentally turned off notifications some time ago.
Anyway, in case this is still relevant:
Glad the battery panel worked out well, and not surprised you are happy, the Blueseas panel ticks most of the boxes.
I chose the hatches because of height the fact that they are "slam" hatches. helpful given the awkward access.
I did not choose larger or smaller hatches, they are both the same size, and no, neither would fit in the small, oddly shaped space under the nav station, and in any case the slam hatches are not strong enough to stand on.
Hope that helps, late as it is....
